Principles

  • Goshin Karate Club is traditional yet friendly and welcomes the involvement of students' families
  • Classes are disciplined but not dictatorial
  • Students respect their teachers but do not fear them
  • The club does not exist for the financial gain of the instructors
  • Self defence is interpreted broadly, for example encompassing strategies for coping with bullying at school
  • The club respects the roots of Karate taught by Master Harada and as founded by Master Chew Choo Soot
  • The club style has its roots in traditional Budokan & Shotokai Karate but is constantly evolving
  • All martial arts are appreciated and proponents of other styles are often welcomed for demonstration sessions
  • The club is non political and welcomes male and female students of all races and religions
  • All martial arts carry an element of risk but all students and instuctors are insured and the club places a strong emphasis on safety
  • Everyone has the right to be taught to defend themselves.
